New Thing #158: A flash of light

In several cultures (though it's most commonly known as being a Jewish ritual), wedding ceremonies are concluded with the breaking of a glass. It's symbolically saying, "may this be the only thing that every breaks between you." Plus, it's fun to break things. It was that last reason, and completely absent of any ritualistic context, for which I broke a lightbulb by stepping on it. My desk lamp at work blazes for eight hours a day, so I go through lightbulbs pretty quickly. But why just place a potentially hazardous glass orb in a common trash can when I can give it a more exciting sendoff?
