New Thing #304: Breaking the Law*

When I started this project, I vowed to never do anything illegal.
Oops.
Today I cut off a tag that said "under penalty of law this tag not to be removed except by the consumer." You might be thinking this is okay, since I apparently own this chair... but.... I DIDN'T BUY IT.

*Not really. Don't arrest me! The penguin made me do it!

OMG, Jen. That is HILARIOUS! Funny thing is I've always felt a little scandalous removing those tags because of the BIG WARNING that says it's illegal. Sheesh. What is all of that about, anyway?! Annoying things. Glad you dispelled the myth of instant arrest for tag removal. Keep up the great blogging, sister!

"Boy, I always thought that was the dumbest law."

Post offices across the country are taping up your wanted poster right now. And at the "New York Post" they've got an office pool going for the headline they're going to use. You can run, Jen365, but you can't hide.

There's an episode of Garfield & Friends where Wade Duck cuts a tag off a pillow and gets arrested. It's called "Wanted: Wade." Good episode. I always think about it when cutting tags off of things. haha.

When my sister and I were little, we used to actually think there was some sort of Bureau of Tag Tearing Investigation who'd come to your house and arrest you for tag-tearing, and every time my mother would start to tear the tags off our pillows, we'd go all to pieces.

Hey - you've now inspired me! I did my own new thing today, something I've been wanting to do for years. I thanked a teacher. Saw my 10th grade English teacher, the one who really taught me to love writing, and I told him how much he's inspired my adult life. He has quite touched.

Don't worry, Jen. When you get sent to jail I'll buy you a cake with a file in it. But the file will have a tag on it, so don't be a recidivist.
