While on a mini-vacation after a wedding weekend, I ended up with some much-relished time on my hands, an opportunity to rent a car, and a lifelong desire to visit one of my all-time favorite movie locations. I went to Goonies beach! Better known as Cannon Beach, it's near Seaside, Oregon, and is about an hour and a half from Portland. After a beautiful drive through trees and green and forest, I arrived at the coast, met by Haystack Rock (and the key to the map), looming impressively out of the ocean. Closer up, I could tell that the rock is too treacherous to climb, and is better suited as a foreground for pirate ships, a background for misfits running to meet their parents, and a context for one of the greatest adventure movies ever.
Assorted responses to the text "I'm at Goonies Beach!"
Amanda: Yeah, I believe in you One-Eyed Willy
Mike: Cool! Do the truffle shuffle!
Maddy: This was my wish my dream and it didn't come true so i'm taking it back i'm taking them all back
Kathleen: Do you see pirate ships?
Kristina: Goonies Beach? Beach? Battling evil with yo yos?
Kirk: Goonies never say die!
Kevin: Did you Goonie?
Lynn: I'm at office heck

Now that August is over, and the 25 New Things I wanted to do are done, I will simply blog every time I do a New Thing. Because I'm sort of addicted. And since I've never been a smoker, a gambler or a fetishist, I figure this is one addiction I can indulge in without guilt. I won't be updating daily, but I will let you know whenever I do something new, even if it's weird, random or seemingly inconsequential. Because it's all about the experience, my dears. And I encourage you do get your New on, however you see fit. Life's too short to do the same thing all the time!
